You’ve identified a business need based on an opportunity or problem and want to pursue a solution. How do you proceed? Do you need to involve the Enterprise Project Support? Do you need access to Strategydotzero [SDZ]? The answer is yes if the lifecycle costs of your activity/initiative include CAPEX. The first step in the Project process is called ‘Identify’ which would involve capturing and submitting ‘Concept’ using the SDZ tool. In some cases, EPS may allow the business area to go directly into ‘Business Case’ development.
Things to remember:
1. Identify the Project Sponsor – The Business needs to identify a project Sponsor, who will act as the primary decision maker, marshal resources as needed, and ensure funding is available. See Project Roles.
2. Capture Opportunity/Problem – The author (with assistance from subject matter experts) is responsible for capturing a summary of contextual information to enable the relevant committee/ Board to make a decision.
3. ICT Component – If there is an ICT touchpoint with the proposed Concept, the author needs to capture additional information around ICT so that the ICT Board can review the proposal and provide relevant feedback to the committee/ board to make a decision.
