The EPS provides project oversight as required. The purpose of the oversight is to ensure projects are well managed and on-track for success. Project management oversight consists of:
- • Approvals based on project categorisation
- • Verifying that minimum project management deliverables are completed and have quality content
- • Produce Quarterly reports to relevant boards and committees
- • Conduct project health checks as required
- • Determination of the appropriate level of effort: Enforce right project controls [e.g. Governance structure, reporting frequency etc.], the minimum set of PM deliverables [Simple vs Detailed]
- • Review project objectives and project status reports
- • Identify and remove project bottlenecks
- • Audit and review lessons learned
- • Authorise significant deviation from the original project scope [PCRs]
A range of formal and in-house training and support for Project Management is available to staff.
The department holds extensive self-help information about Project Management accessible through this EPS Portal and the knowledge base within StrategyDotZero.
Depending on the focus of the project, you may want to talk to the Corporate Program Office for non-policy projects, or the Project Office for policy focused projects.
External Training
The Department uses a number of project management methodologies, but primarily Prince 2 and Agile. Training in these methodologies is provided by several external training providers.
You should discuss with your manager, whether this level of formal training is required. More information is available from the learning and development team.

The department has an online course available through Pulse – “Project Management” which may provide sufficient training for your immediate needs.
In addition, a similar course “Project Management Principles for Policy Development” may also provide you with more specific assistance.
Knowledge Base
The department holds extensive self-help information about Project Management accessible through an Intranet search for “Project Management”.

StrategyDotZero(SDZ)
SDZ is the department’s prime tool to manage project creation, approval and reporting. While SDZ can support the majority of project planning activities, its main focus is to support project managers report their project status to business owners and the Executive.
SDZ is managed by the Enterprise Project Support (EPS). Access to SDZ can be provided through an email request.
SDZ training is available through the EPS, and can take the form of group presentations, which are run on a regular basis; on-line, self-paced e-learning tutorials, and extensive on-line help facilities.
